Photographer’s Note

Hi all.

We haven’t had any serious rain for about 2 months now which is almost unheard of here. Although we are not as badly off as parts of Australia or even areas in our own South Island we are starting to get awfully dry. The government is “moderately worried” about the situation but I think the farmers are a whole lot more worried than the government!

This shot was taken not far from home just outside of a small town called Halcombe which is not famous for anything as far as I am aware. Taken late morning with the hash light of summer.

In WS another shot for Pablo taken from the same place and time just looking in the other direction.

Hello Paul,

What a contrast, youhave sunny days and green grass and we are under a blacket of snow and cold temperatures in Canada. I like the way the lines on the field come down from the slope. The slope itself look steep from this angle but obviously not enough for the combine to gater the hay. Good colours and nice image. Thanks Paul.

Hi Paul,
what is this? The wall with lines looks like a playing field for some unknown game. In this case the hay balls must be some subject of the game.
Wonderful contrast of colour against the sky and in addition a contrast of the direction of lines here. Good framed by the tree.

Hi Paul,
I'm afraid a dry summer is awaiting us, as well. This is a very nice farm photo. The cylindrical haystacks seem as if they are rolling down the hill. Exposure is spot-on. Color looks good if a bit yellowish. I think cropping the bottom all the way to where the fence starts, as well as some of the sky, to turn the picture into a semi-panoramic format is worth considering. Regards,

Hello Paul,

Yes, it certainly looks dry and at a glance I thought it was an Aussie landscape. The situation has just got a little better here; Australia is a land of contrasts. The horrid drought has broken in much of Queensland in the past few weeks to devastating flooding. Other sections are still dust. As you say, very unusual to see this in NZ which I remember (North Island in particular) to be very lush and green. Good photo, the streaking on the hillside is very attractive and the sky hints at a little bit of rain to come. TFS.

Olá Paul, wonderful graphic image. Love the effect of the lines descending from that hill. It seems that the game is over and now the players have to come to remove the hay cilinders for the next turn. Beautiful balance of colors and nice contrast of the vertical lines with the horizontal clouds on the sky. The sky in WS is fantastic.

Hallo Paul,
This is more a scenery i would link to Italy, byt you found it in your own country, how nice. I like those patternes that come down the hill, those lines are very photogenic and make the whole image to be very good.

Hi Paul, A superb country scene, I love the rolling hill & the cross patten on it, the shades of green & yellow are nicely broken by the hay bails, the large tree to the left is a good touch, although I would prefer to see the little tree in the centre taken out, although this is a personal opinion &, I can see that would of been very difficult, kind regards Wilson.

It is an interesting shot. I liked the way lines goes down hill. I don't understand how machines got to do that work in that "abyss" hahaha. Good pov, the line of the hill against the sky and the trees too

Hi Paul,
Looks like NIWA is off the mark again ... they predicted that NI will be wetter while the SI will be sunny. Very good capture and wonderfully composed. Good resulting image and color quality. tfs and have a nice weekend.

Hi Paul,
A nice slope highlighted by the lines and even the bales sitting down there. Textures and soft colors are realistic. I like the compo and POV with tree on the side adding contrast.

- Beautiful landscape in this undulating area, Paul, I like this hill with the accentuated slope, the clouds in the sky lets forecast a probable heavy shower, fortunately because one realizes well the ambient dryness, in any case a beautiful image, bravo!

Salut Paul!
Une magnifique photo de ferme sous un ciel nuageux et bien composée. Les lignes sur la pente formées par la machinerie donnent un bel aspect à la photo. On peut supposer que les rouleaux de foin sont partis d'en haut pour rouler jusqu'en bas et que celui de gauche a gagné la course. La clôture et le petit arbre à droite sont un ajout à la beauté de la photo.

Interesting since you have chosen a low point of view or a palce lower than the surrounding, and the field is lifting up toward the sky, which shows nicely the traces of the harvesting machine.

A simple one and very attractive composition, I like this landscape with the reaped field and the graphism of the lines and the rolls that it seems that they have descended down for the slope.
Good exposure, and natural colors, in spite of the drought. The sky is magnificent.
In Spain also we are suffering a very hard drought.
Nice work, and I like the WS also.

A simple but well working composition in showing this field after harvest!
I miss the haybales, hahahaha... No, what I miss is summer!
Fine lines in the field, and inclusion of the green foliage adds both colour contrast and depth!

Bonjour Paul,
très belles vues de ces campagnes néo-zélandaises sous l'été.
Un pays bien différent du mien où il arrive que nous soyons vraiment fatigués de vivre sous le pluie.
Je reterai bien 2 mois sans pluie, moi.
Une photo bien graphique avec ces sillons bien courbés, une scène qui se déploie dans d'agréables lumières.
Le ciel est prodigieux.

Hi Paul,Actually both the PP and the WS are all about patterns. Here the golden lines curving down to the hay bales, and the perpendicular lines of the clouds are enhanced by the framing with the tree and the gully. The impeccable detail throughout is especially noticable in the money tree; at least that's what they call them in Hawaii. When your indoor tree touches the ceiling, your debts will be all paid off. It doesn't work!! My son's touches the ceiling, mine doesn't; however, the debts are in an inversere ratio to the myth.

It the WS, the pattern of the clouds is empasized by the lines.

Very nice choice of composition, the green tree to the left gives a nice contrast.
Nice lines on the slope, also through the rolls straw in foreground get we a very nice picture.

Belle photo de ces traces de coupe, fauche et le faucheur est un as pour couper sur des pentes pareilles et vous en êtes un autre pour votre POV superbe qui nous montre bien ces difficultés et en plus les couleurs sont très jolies, la bonne netteté et ce beau ciel en font une magnifique prise.

Well seen, those patterns on the fields. I like very much to see those lines. The hay bales are also well included. Very nice indeed! The hayrolls sitting on the plain land just below the curved slope & the contrasting blue sky with horizontal clouds. Are this parallel lines on the slopes created by the rolling hayrolls? Well framed with the tree on the left. Good work!
