Photographer’s Note

This was taken at Lake Ohau during sunset facing east. The South Island high country has one of the clearest sky in the southern hemisphere. One of the well known observatory, Mount John, is situated just outside of Lake Tekapo. The area is now under consideration to be recognized as a world heritage site.

Hello Renier. One recognizes the beauty of this photo only if one opened the picture. The title directs the view of the evening sky with its tender colors and the full moon. This width is impressing. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Renier,
Calm scene of darkening sky, sea, mountain landscape and the moon. Quite pleasant colours. As there isn't much drama up in the sky, I'd prefer more sea and less sky.

I like the subtle tones got all around the image, the color gradations on the sky are pretty good, as well as the presence of the moon.
It's very good the composition made with the large open spaces.

Beautiful minimalist image. I like the graduation in the sky from blue to orange and of course the moon. You have captured good texture in the water.

Hello Renier,

I find this to be a good, but not great shot by your standards. While the lower half of your image is well structured and presents us with some strong colour variations and water patterns, the rest of the image is proportionally too dominant. I can appreciate that you wanted to present the colour variations in the sky but I feel that the gradient was just too subtle to create a feature-sky, or a particular ambient mood. The moon is a strong inclusion, however I would have taken the image, if possible, slightly earlier while there were still stronger light colourations and the moon was closer to the mountain slopes. The vivid light from the sunset a few moments prior, I feel may have allowed greater detail to be shown on the distant hills and snow. I am a great fan of your images, but I feel that wasted space dominates this shot. That being said, it is still a wonderful scene and fondly reminds me of my visits to the South Island. Great to see the Southern Sky in such great landscape.
With that size of the picture, it's amazing how the moon is so clear, so sharp.

Here in Portugal (northern hemisphere) this June we are getting southern hemisphere weather. Our almost summer is like winter. Crazy weather.

What a serene place! A longer exposure may have softened the water a bit to enhance the calmness of the evening. An extra point for creativity with your POV - love the moon in the sky, instead of the sun.

I posted a workshop where I played with curves a bit in Photoshop and reduced some noise, hope you like the result.
