little black singlet

In NZ we have a strong stereotype that farmers wear black singlets. Particularly those who shear sheep - I don't know why this is? Anyhow, back in the 80s, a NZ comedian called Fred Dagg (Dagg is the name for the dangly pieces of sheep droppings attached to the sheeps behind, that's his stage name) made the black singlet quite famous, accesorised with his black gumboots.
At the local A and P show I took this photo of one of the men in the woodchopping contest (yes we chop wood for a sport!). Not only does it epitomise the little black singlet but also shows a fine specimen of the 'beer gut'. All paid for... Fred Dagg's signature line on TV was "kick it in the guts Trev".
Is this Trev? |

:-) Love it! What a great note, giving a good insight to Kiwi Culture. I'm sure most non-kiwis have no knowledge of Fred Dagg and woodcutting.
Being a 'city girl', I only ever saw the woodcutters at the Easter Show, or a few local 'country' schools Ag Days... always loved watching though :-)
Thanks for the great photo and the memories. (I wonder what the subject would think, if he saw his beer gut being shown around the world!).
