Doubtful Sound Photo

Photographer’s Note

Doubtful Sound is in the Fiordland region on the South Island of New Zealand. It was named Doubtful Harbour by Captain Cook, who did not enter the inlet as he was uncertain whether it was navigable under sail, and later renamed Doubtful Sound. Access to the sound is either by sea or by the Wilmot Pass road. I was lucky to spend two days exploring the sound by kayak with nine other people, camping overnight in this wild, remote location.

Hello,
what a splendid and mystical scenery. The tall mountains emerging directly from the sea give additional effect of inaccessability and untouched nature. The slightly subdued colours are very appropriate for this photo, as are the nice fogs giving the finishing touch.

Hi Chris, this is a very nice scenery shot of Doubtful Sound. I love kayaking, this spot looks very inviting with its steep walls and looks like lots of turns. I like your composition. The colour is great and you've captured a nice mist or low cloud to make the area seem very surreal. So for a non-photo related question, how do you arrange to become part of a tour here?

just wonderful remote location .. made mysterious with the mist and the steep walls above the water .. love the light on the right side cliffs .. love the hint of the reflection .. wondrous vast place.
