Photographer’s Note

On the third day we crossed the highest point on the track, 1154m above sea level. This is the hardest day, as it is the day we climbed up nearly 500m and then down nearly 1000m. It is also the day we experienced the best views. The climb up was actually harder as the zig-zag path down, although longer, was more gentle. We did not have a clear day, as it was raining, but it was spectacular none the less. The walk across the top of this mountain is called Mackinnon Pass and it was quite windy, but we only had t-shirts and the raincoat kept the bodyheat in, so no need for extra warm clothing. Walking up the hill makes you sweat too. There is a little hut at the top, where you can rest for a while and gas cooker is provided, so you can make a warm cup of tea. I managed to include some hikers in this shot so you can see the scale of things. Also this was shot in "auto" mode as it was raining and windy and setting up a tripod was a bit hard. Some photoshop work done to reduce the cloud cover and enhance the colors in the moutains. Those white dots in the bottom right corner are actually clumps of white flowers. The best thing about the rain, is that there are many waterfalls all around as you walk.
