Photographer’s Note
First day of a 4 day hike along the Milford Track. The track runs from the northern tip of Lake Te Anau to Milford Sound. Heavy backpack, uncertain weather and an SLR around my neck. Ah, it was worth it. 80 people walk this track each day during the season, 40 guided and 40 unguided. I did it unguided. The difference is that the guided people have chefs cooking their meals and their huts are probably a bit more comfortable, but for this they pay more than twice what we paid. The track is very well marked, with a signpost every mile, the water in the streams is crystal clear and drinkable without purification, the path a little rocky, the scenery and the serenity fantastic. I will post a few photos, but I really don't think they do justice. This track has to be seen first hand, for it to be trully appreciated. But be warned: the weather can and probably will turn on you. Rain is more common than sunshine in this forest and the clouds move fast. This photo taken not far from the Clinton Hut, our first resting place for the night. There is a ranger at each hut, who makes sure everyone has arrived safely. Gas cookers are provided and the shared sleeping huts are surprisingly warm.
Some photoshop work with levels and shaddow/highlight tool.
BTW. I think this is the first photo from the Milford Track at TrekEarth. If anyone else has done the hike and has photos, please post them here.
