Milford Sound, New Zealand
Of all the natural worders New Zealand has to offer, Milford sound must be one of the best. Mitre Peak, the tallest in this image is the tallest ocean to summit cliff in the world, at 1,695 metres, and is capped with snow even in summer. This was a very good day for Milford weather wise, as this spot is flooded with over 7 metres of rainfall a year. This place is very special; carved by a giant glacier, and home to many sorts of marine creatures. As the water is very very deep, dolphins, seals penguins and sometimes Orca whales are seen here. I went on a cruise which sailed past the great pyramid of Mitre peak and out into the open ocean behind. It is very difficult to understand the size of this place, an ocean liner would be a small speck if it were near the base of Mitre in this shot. The clouds did clear more during the day, and I was lucky enough to see the tops of all the normally cloud clad summits. Very beautiful, very cold, and difficult to get to. A very busy tourist spot. This is a must see attraction at the New Zealand 'Theme park'.

Hi Matt, This is certainly an NZ Icon to put it mildly. Very clear composition with both clarity and realistic colours. Excellent note as we expect from you now. Congrats on going gold. Good gallery being built on your site. Murray.

A fantastic place... and a good solution for the discussion of every summer: "do we go to the mountains or to the beach?"
Well composed view though perhaps too exact 50/50 given to water and mountains. Clouds and reflections on water are excellent. I would prefer some more definition (try sharp mask) and some more brightness
Thank you for sharing this beatiful view.

definitely a place to visit in nz. it's an interesting pov, looking at the mountains. what is the green stuff in the foreground? is it floating, or is it land? great colours though. a good composition, well done

Hi Matthew,
New Zealand Pure is the tag line of the country's tourism ad and its beyond doubt with your foto. Thanks.

Hi Matt,
Lovely shot of New Zeland icon. I like the way this picture is ballanced, no strong clolours. What I'd prefer is more sharpness. Apart from that all perfect!
