[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Although I'm not completely happy with the composition or lighting of this gigantic portrait (painted on the side of an anonymous barn next to an anonymous stream) I really loved the colours and design of this eye-catching mural. Must have been around 50 feet tall.

Took this somewhere outside Auckland, I think, while driving a rental car around on a rainy winter day. New Zealand's artwork is unique, often painted or inspired by traditional Maori designs (look at the cheek of this sea dragon). A culture that embraces tribal traditions, New Zealand delights me every time.

Would appreciate critiques on this one, since I love it but find many flaws myself.

Hi Soon,

It's dificult for me without looking at the whole scene.
The head of the serpent catch my attention though. I'll place it in the upper left corner per rule of thirds.
I think it will improve the impact it conveys.

Nice picture anyway,

Great shot. The only thing distracting is the lack of vibrance to the color; probably as a result of the rainy winter day. You may want to either boost the saturation in PS, or use a film like Fuji Velvia. I really do like the image.

You have found quite good piece of artwork!
I would straighten the horizontal lines.
Supposing that you had a chance to take a few steps back of choose a wider angle, top and right parts of the dragon would have been nice to be visible. Neither of these irritates me, so you get a green from me.
I would not change the tone, it is important to be faithful to the original artwork.
And welcome to TE!
Kari

Welcome to TE Soon,

This shot honestly jumped off the page in thumbnail. its obviously an amazing piece of art, so its difficult for me to objectively critique your photo. I think perhaps a wider-angle shot (even fisheye) works better with street art / graffiti (but if you dont have the equipment, there's nothing you can do) I dont think a straight up shot works too well, so I'm glad you've used a slight angle / tilt, but I think perhaps not enough.

Even still its a great image and a great note.
TFS,
Andy
