Photographer’s Note

This is the Auckland Harbour Bridge, it was opened in May 1959. It was the last bridge of it type constructed in the world, all newer bridges have been cable span like the Golden Gate. The bridge originally opened with 4 lanes, this was soon not enough. In 1969 ten years after the bridge the Nippon Clipons were added, this gave the bridge another 4 lanes.

The clip-on sections will need replacing by 2016, they had a design life of 50 years, so we will get another bridge or a tunnel, I prefer the tunnel option.

The photo was taken from Northcote Point. I think it would have looked better with a few clouds in the sky.
