Photographer’s Note

North Shore of the East Cape between Opotiki and Hicks Bay is a string of empty beaches with views to volcano of White Island.
This is Raukokore church. If there was a village nearby, it certainly wasn't big.
Sorry, I burned the roof. Not a nice thing to do to a church. To my excuse, my digital camera was broken, and this was shot with a cheap film compact I bought
to get through the rest of the holiday.

Hi Kari! What a lovely church and the surroundings are very nice too. It is certainly a great subject for a good picture. Considering you taking it with a compact, the quality is still very good. Overall a very good shot, but I would have decentralised the church a bit and so giving a bit more attention to the surroundings (creates more depth).

It is many years since we did the East Cape trip, and maybe we'll get back there one day, I hope so.

Where else but NZ? Perhaps the steeple is tilted, roof white and some of the area to the left could have been cropped but you used a cheap camera and you posted this over 3 years ago. However being a kiwi I am attracted to this photo regardless. On a future trip to NZ I would like to venture into this area and so tfs, Marlene
