Let the Races Begin

I was leaving for work this morning when I saw these boats anchored off the beach. Today was Day 2t of the annual Youth Sail 2005 Regatta. Over 140 sailors are taking part in the four-day regatta being hosted by Murrays Bay Sailing Club on Auckland’s North Shore. The regatta brings together the top Youth Sailors under the age of 19 to compete across a number of different classes. Up-and-coming talent from across New Zealand will be in Auckland for the event.

When I saw this scene, I knew I’d have to be late to work, as I had to photograph it. It was 8.45am and the parents and helpers had been up early, getting their patrol boats all ready on the water waiting for the sailors to hit the water for their first race of the day, to start at 10am.

hello Janice, that's a nice picture. i like the colours. everything seems so quiet : i can't believe that a race was beginning! i also like the direction of the boats. well seen!

Hi Janice. Nice picture with morning note.

Hi Janice. A delightful scene in the morning light of the various small boats grouped around the larger one. Fun how the yellow and red boat provide alternating dots of color amidst the nice blue setting. Good choice to go for more of a panoramic format on this one.
