Photographer’s Note

This is a stained-glass window on the Top floor of Manukau City Mall, Auckland, North Island, New Zealand. It was designed by Shona McFarlane and is called The Rainbow.

McFARLANE, Shona (1929 - 2001) was an artist and former journalist and teacher of art. She is known to many New Zealanders from her time as a panellist on the television programme "Beauty and the Beast".

McFarlane has published numerous books featuring her colourful paintings, often coupled with anecdotal accounts of her life's experiences. Her titles are Dunedin: Portrait of a City (1970); Mixed Media (1975); Of Cabbages and Things; From Maungaraki (1983); and White Moas and Artichokes (1993).

Its beutoful. Maybe its not the angle I would have chosen. Id have gone for a flat shot with the window being the only thing in the shot. But your shot is excellent since you can see the colors reflecting on the walls and ceiling.

You have some amazing photos over here ... I guess I will come here again to critique them ... I would like to do a good job over here so I am going to do it when I am in proper frame of mind. and I must tell you I am very harsh on technicalities when it comes to critiquing on TE. ha ha

Very nice photo subject you found, Janice. The backlight effect on the stained-glass window is nicely rendered, resulting in a delightfully colored impression. I'm glad you took a step back and showed the artwork in its surroundings because you got an additional nice element from the rainbow-like reflections off the ceiling and wall. Good shot.

Good presentation of this stained glass window. I like hoy you choosed the angle to de the shot, adding some depth and perspective. Very nice effect of epilled light around the window. Nice job.

I came for the colours in this picture, but the composition is very nice too as the fact that you left out some space for the light reflection on the walls is a great plus.
A real pleasure to look at.
