Lake Tekapo is also the name of the small town where this was taken. It is nothing more than a roadside pit stop between Mt Cook and Christchurch where tourbuses stop for souvenir shopping. I stopped because the lupines looked nice. The blue of the lake is produced by glacial flour. I almost posted a much wider angle that showed a V-shaped high cloud above the lake, but that one had fewer flower details. The image quality on this one is disappointing because of the compression. I was surprised I had to lower quality to about 50% to fit 200kb, normally I do about 75%.

What an amazing sight! I was in NZ in May 2002, no flowers that time of the year. If I go again I'll make sure I do at the right time to see this. Thank you Tan for the reminder and a nice view you posted here.

Middle-Earth is really a Superb Country. Cannot get enough of these picture from the Land of the Kiwis!

Cheers!

Superbe image. Le paysage est très beau, mais avec ces fleurs au premier plan wuaoo quelle émotion.

WHat a great composition!!!

The sharp contrast in colours make this almost a surrealistic painting to me. Composition is beuatiful!

Another prize winner, Tan.
I think that the image quality is of secondary importance when you consider the hallucinogenic effect brought about by looking at all those colours. The lupines are just amazing and of course the blue colour of the water reminds me of those beautiful lakes in the Canadian Rockies.
Thanks for sharing.
Paul

Hi Tan
With this picture you can increase more than 10% the tourism for New Zeland.
Marvellous

This one is incredible nice too. I like very very much. Congratulations.

Hi Tan.
It's with great pleasure that I discover this 'old' contribution of yours. The colors of the foreland lupines are incredible ! Given the number of colors of the picture and the degree of details, I'm not surprised that you had to compress it at a rather high rate ! The Background mountains are very impressive and they give such a scenic setup to the general composition. Thanks for sharing !

Whoa! fabulous colors and very well seen Tan.

Hi Tan,
What a beautiful photo. I took a photo not so different than this one, not far from lake Tekapo (take a look), but yours is much more stunning with the blue sky and all the colors.
Cheers,
Maya

Good image. I was at this very spot about a month ago. Unfortunately, the flowers were no where to be seen. I guess next time I will go back in December.

Hi Tan
When I was 8, I visited New Zealand with my family and we spent Christmas at Mt Cook. I still remember the lupins and the strong smell coming from them. Even more than the colours. Anyway, you have captured them brilliantly here and the colours are stunning. They contrast well against the blue of the lake.
Regards Nikki

This is a very colourful landscape photograph, Tan - a bit different from your usual landscape posts but just as striking - imagine what this would have been like with one of your trademark stormy skies! I am not surprised you had to lower the quality to 50% given the amount of detail and different colours there are in the foreground which makes up half of the area within the frame. Cheers . . . I still remember coming over the hill and our first sight of Lake Tekapo in January 1986. I couldn't believe then that the water really was this colour.
Amazing view here Tan, The lupins are beautiful, but I do feel their leaves in the FG are a bit too saturated.
Well shown, thank you
Janice

Tan -

That's some colour, let me tell you! Very well done. The flowers and water create a very strong contrast which makes for an excellent photo. Good job!
