Photographer’s Note
I was walking near the external reef in Rarotonga, during the low tide.
It was our first day at the Cook Islands.
Ten minutes before we saw 2 whales at 100 meters from the beach, so i took the camera and i walked on the dead reef the most possible near to the whales.
Walkig on the dead reef is very hard and sometimes dangerous, so when i was arrived at the border with the ocean the whales were arrived in New Zealand!
I took 3 or 4 images of the 2 big jumping whales, but every time that some friend look that images i must to explane: "this 2 light blue things in the light blue ocean are 2 whales!"
...when i was walking back to the beach i found that beautiful blue Starfish that i had never seen before.
The, when we came back home i found that the correct name is "Linckia laevigata" and is a rare starfish of southern Pacifica, common only on the Fiji and Cook reefs.

Hello Paolo,
I conducted a workshop on your image, hope you don't mind... let me know what you think of this modified version...
As I studied your image I found that the scene was very interesting, the way the indigo blue starfish "pops" out against the white coral... rocks have lots of texture, adding more interest... also the sharpness of the image was pretty good considering almost everything in the image was below water level...
One small issue, your subject was a bit too small for the image size... and the rocks on the upper part of the frame were out of focus...
I think with my altered image you can appreciate all of the beautiful elements that you have captured...

Excellent sharpness and very interesting picture. I thought starfishes had always 5 arms, not 4... And that blue color is amazing.
