In the small settlement of Lake Tekapo in the South Island's McKenzie Country is a statue of a collie sheepdog. Brought to New Zealand in the 19th century by Scottish immigrants, the ancestors of the original collies have been bred to handle the worst conditions the High Country can throw at farmers. The statue is a tribute to these heroic dogs for without them sheep farming would be well-nigh impossible in these foothills of the Southern Alps.

Neighbours today, both of us posting images of statues. I like the way that you have positioned the statue without showing much of the plinth. The dog is well located with the mountains and misty lake in the background.
Great colours and atmosphere.

Hello Neil ,
An impressive capture of this statue of a dog . The framing is excellent , giving a large place to the superb misty mountain landscape in the BG . Great light and beautiful effect of the polarizer (I suppose ?)

Hello Neil - I have just commented on Trevor's shot and two more different figurative sculptures would be hard to find. Here is a piece that is comfortable and heartwarming to view and I'm sure nobody would throw a fit when viewing this! Your shot is beautifully composed with good use of negative space and enough of the gorgeous NZ landscape to put the piece in context. Attractively lit too. Warm regards Rosemary

On the icon I thought it was a living dog. Beautiful statue, excellent composition, great light

this is a wonderful presentation with a strong impact. A minimal and superbly balanced composition that makes the iconic sheepdog the most important and attractive element in the vast, mysterious and suggestive landscape -the immense sky is very evocative too. You used the flash in a very creative way, the contrasting colours and the atmosphere are irresistible. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
