Photographer's Note

Waitangi is the main town in the Chatham Islands, one of the most isolated settlements in the world, being some 700 kilometres to the east of New Zealand's South Island. There are several Waitangis, or variations in New Zealand, the best known being in the Bay of Islands. The name means weeping waters. Population in the Chathams is only around 400 & decreasing. I took this photo last New Year's Day from Tikitiki Hill overlooking the little town - one general store, a hardware, a small supply store & one pub & hotel! No ratrace here!!!
