I was in Rotorua a couple of days ago with some clients from Dubai & they decided to take a floatplane flight over the volcanoes of the Rotorua area & out & over White Island, an active volcanoes in the Bay of Plenty. As they were the only people on the aircraft I was asked if I would like to go along - how could I refuse! As it was an impromptu journey, I did not have my camera gear, just my iphone. Was quite pleased with the results. I have landed on White Island with groups of tourists many times - see earlier postings - but this was the first time I had seen the island from the air. There had been a small eruption a few months ago but last Sunday it was back to its normal steaming mode. Whatever its volcanic status, White Island is always a fascinating place.

iPhone?? Wow! It´s a great image anyhow.
The moving water in the FG looks almost like metal. Very special effect from the shutter speed.

If this is the quality you get nowadays from an iphone, i throw my Nikon out.

Absolutely fabulous shot. Taken from iPhone the end result is almost unbelievable.
The picture is so pin sharp and natural...it creates a seeing in person impact. The details captured on the water in the FG is incredible. Marvelous.
Congratulations on a fine capture of a rare natural event.

That's an impressive point of view on this island!
It should be very interesting to go and hike on this island.

Hi Neil - I was already about to be really impressed, and then I read that you got this with an iPhone... we really are in a new age of photography. Beautiful capture; the clarity and sharpness of the island and especially the water is stunning. Thanks!
