Photographer's Note

Tree ferns are one of the most distinguishing feature of the New Zealand rainforest. There are several types, reaching in height to around 20 metres, making them among the world's tallest ferns. This one, in Waipoua Forest in Northland, is a mamaku - Cyathea medullaris - or black tree ferns, & is the largest of the species.
