Photographer’s Note
In October and November 2004 me and my girlfriend spent 4 weeks in New Zealand. We started in Auckland and finished in Christchurch. In between we visited a lot of beautiful places. Our first day in the campervan ended on Shelley Beach, a perfect campsite near a perfect beach. After dinner, I looked out of the window of our mobile home and saw the sun was setting. I took a picture and this is the result.
I am quite happy with this photograph, but feel free to criticize!

Really great photo, Pieter, although I wonder if it would reveal more if the histogram was stretched.

Perhaps a cropping for the dark part around the sunset will make this more perfect!

I agree with Jiekuan. A cropping would make it again better, but what a sunset !

The foreground is underexposed, but I think this adds to the curtain effect of the trees/branches that surround the brilliant sunset. It adds a bit of mystery to the overall effect.

Ah, sunset at Coromandel. Nice one Peiter. I live perhaps just under the sun, on the North Shore of Auckland, not that far away. What a shame I hadn't met you and your girlfriend before. I'm not worrying about the photo, as I love the colours and shadows. Well done!

I love this image, but think a tighter crop from the bottom would enhance it, the black doesn't add much.
The sun looks like a yellow lollipop with the fence post just beneath it.

Alli
