Fantail Falls, a photo from West Coast, South Island

A happy new year to everyone.
We're off on a New Zealand visit soon and that made me realise that I've not posted many photos from previous trips.
Fantail Falls are on the road up to Haast Pass. The road links the west coast with Wanaka. It runs beside the Haast river for some distance. A short walk from the road leads you to the river and these falls. When the river is high and after rain I guess that they would go straight into the river.

Hi Neighbour, compositional choice was good here, putting the falls to one side of the image. Think I might have cropped the gravel on the near side of the river though. Colours have come out well from the scan, but it looks as though some detail has been lost. It is a very hard thing to get the quality as good as the original shot. cheers, Steve

You must be a mind reader, I was thinking the same thing...just posted my falls as this photo came up. Great colour, and composition, I agree with Steve, the little bit of gravel is a distraction, but a great shot. Informative note.

Hi Ian,
Usually you get a much better quality image than this one from your scans. This shot is suffering from a lack of focus plus the over-exposed gravel in the foreground.
On a positive note, the composition is good.

Hi Ian

Happy NEw Year to you and yours, hope you passed it in style. I also see you have an evil twin in Mike who's been posting from the same place. Excellent sharpness and depth. The colour looks a little blown out (probably a result of the scan) but all in all a lovely photo of a very spectacular place. Have a a happy and safe trip to NZ. See you when you get back hopefully and I look forward to your photos.
