The symbol of the fern is everywhere in New Zealand. From business and banks to rugby and cricket New Zealand is known by the fern. Be it a stroll in the woods, or a walk down the street you can't help but see ferns of all shapes and sizes growing everywhere. I have posted images of ferns (Baby Fern) on TE before. This particular shot is recent. I wanted the simplicity of the fern with out a whole lot of background distraction. I was hiking on Great Barrier Island and decided to hold a fern in the mid afternoon sunlight with a dark shady background behind it. Another great photographer Naguib Kerba once told me "if you don't like the background of a shot, change it." I angled the fern in a way to maximize the play of light on the leaves.
Because my set up of the shot was more than simply stumbling onto a scene, the post processing was much more simple. I cropped for composition and did a slight level.
Please let me know what you think!

Lovely composition, simply but very nice. Only this leaf and black backgroung. Well done, good idea, bravo!
