in the The Cold Crisp winter afternoon. My earlier version to the sunset one and personally my favourite from the trip down there.

Fantastic landscape. The clouds in the sky complete an excellent composition, great light and colours. Good clarity and depth too. TFS

A killing view again! What a beauty! With the raking light, the strong contrast; the warm colors of the soil against the evanescent light around the snowed top of the mountain... that's gorgeous. I also like how the clouds seem to take their source there, as if it was coming from an active volcano. Congratulations!

I like it a lot!

adores (35106) 2010-07-18 14:07
This is a great one, not only for the composition, but also because of this magnificent light - it's perfect! I also light those long clouds!
npecanhuk (62564) 2010-07-18 14:49
The same magnificent location and another wonderful nature photograph!
Sharpness, exposure, pov, colors, pp, contrasts, slim horizontal & rectangular & panoramical format, black & white borders and composition are all excellent!
Again, I just wish it were larger!
TFS - congratulations!

We see alot of lanscapes on here, but this one is pure quality. The width and depth are stunning, the colours so warm and real. What a stunning scene, my first thoughts were 'this is Nepal', then I saw NZ..i gotta get over the ditch and look about soon :)

you are the master at landscapes.
i can imagine wild horses running across that large open plain.
very beautiful, tranquil and it evokes imagination and immagedry as it did for me with the horses.

Hi Jim, Well executed shot of a great scene. Light management has worked well presenting thost nice brown highlights in the FG in a dark scene, but also retaining some detail in the white peak. Fine work. Cheers, Steve

It's been a while, I hope you are doing well too. The intensity of the colors here make the image really pop and the snow peak of Mt Ngauruhoe realy stand out against the deep teal blue sky. The pp make it looks like a painting. Really beautiful the semi pano view also enhances the wide openess of the vast landscape. I really enjoyed it. Even thought the mt is not as big as the previous post, I like this one a little more.

Another nice view of it, the wide panoramic frame fits well to the landscape and these clouds on the left are great pointers
Have a nice day JY

this image is a real masterpiece, it almost looks like graphic artwork. The cold light and the long shadows create a fantastic atmosphere. Congratulation!

Hi Jim, definitely one of my favourites, I can see why it would be yours (although there are way too many good ones to choose from your Gallery). The golden light especially in the FG and the streaming clouds are just mind blowing. The depth is so good I can see every ridge on the mountain of yours. And the sky, well you really know how to use that CPL filter. TFS and I hope you have a good weekend, Lisa

A fine distant view of the perfectly shaped volcano!
The snow-capped summit really stands out as it is hit by the afternoon sun...
Very attractive colour palette, and the scene is well exposed!
BennyV (13548) 2010-09-26 3:57
Another fantastic shot, very painterly. Superb contrast of the white volcanoes in the midste of the exploding colours. A great choice of format, it includes all it should and nothing more.
I do love your post of today too, but what I liked even more about it, is that it lead me to those other goodies in your gallery. Fantastic!

I lost the king of light;]]for a while...,good to see you back Jim and like me you are not afraid of dark spots as well,it seems to be not done for the modern TL and TE members to have shady places into the photo,Im glad you go your own way, this is superbe stuff.

I was enjoying your gallery, Jim.
I like this one, with such clean air, and the light that enhances the contrast.

An impressive photo of the volcanic core of the North Island. I like the rich colour in the sky, highlighted by the golden grassy plain. The whit cone of Ngauruhoe looks spectacular and it looks good to climb. I've seen it from a distance, will have to return for a closer look at this region. Well framed and presented, a great postcard from NZ.
Bournazel (6373) 2010-11-28 5:21
nice place for a volcanoes fan like me...!
foozi (7101) 2010-12-10 22:38
a real excellent view of this mountain seen in a splendid colour composition.
Very well defined landscape and pleasant colour contrast, especially the white top against the blue sky.
ecmel (1127) 2010-12-13 23:36
Very well chosen point of view. The light in the foreground emphasizes topography of volcano. Gorgeous shot.

Thanks for the kind words! You're right. Since now I'm living in Sweden, most of photos are from Europe. However, you can find a theme about Iran in my profile (100+ points photos of Iran).
I like your idea to do such a framing and light management. The warm tones of this shot make it so fantastic. Well done!
Have a nice weekend,

Beautiful! Reminds me of my trip from Wellington to Auckland...went through the Desert Road to get a shot of the three volcanoes - looked out from the town just before this and things looked great...stopped to grab a bite at Subway and in 15 minutes the clouds rolled in..waited for over three hours and nothing happened. Had to move on because the car had to be returned in Auckland before 6!
Would have loved to have seen this vision...superb light and wonderful (non-intrusive!) clouds...
