I was at Lake Ohau last weekend. When I woke up around 6am last Saturday, it was just wild weather. The wind was blowing at 100Kph and the rain was pouring ... actually it felt like hail. But I've never had the chance of exploring the photographic potential of the lake on a really bad weather condition. So, I grab my rain coat and camera, and went down to the lake shore with my dog. For those pet lovers, don't be concern with my dog ... he is a springer spaniel and he just loves the water irrespective of the conditions. It was tough going because the rain was getting to my lens (I forgot to bring my lens hood) and I was not able to use a tripod because the wind just blows it away. It took me more than 20 shots before coming up with this one that I feel postable here in TE. It was a really mad experience trying to brave the wild elements but at least I know next time what to expect and be more prepared. As the famous cliche goes, "Nothing ventured nothing gained". Hope you like the photo.

Even with the lens flare and the white out, it was well worth the wet! Great scene capture, and well positioned, with great diagonals and the rule of three. Rough waves, too, for a lake. Nice to have everything fall into place like this!

Hi Renier

Nice lightning of the picture! I also like the movement in it by the waves. Well done!

Hi Renier,

Very good result of your "experience". Nice colors and light of the sunrise, great textures. I like the waves breaking on rocks.

Bravo!
Leonor

Hi Renier,

It's amazing how you can get such great shots with such bad weather, yet here is the proof! Really dramatic clouds and waves, showing the power of the weather. I like the fact that you shot toward the sun, which I think gives us the combination of rain and sun all at once. Nicely done!

Hello Renier

Hi Renier,
It actually looks more like the ocean rather than like a lake... with such rough weather and waves well frozen in time, superb luminosity and shine.... the atmosphere is well conveyed, but i am sure it was much worse than what it looks like here, climatically talking, that is

Hola Renier,
Una foto fantástica con una atmósfera muy especial. Una playa movidita con esas olas embravecidas. Excelentes colores y POV.

Nice athmosphere created from the sun rays and very well using the nature light. I like the story behind it, thanks Renier :-)

Hi Renier,
is the result all this effort worth? Yes, it is. I like the strong sun and strong water against the stones and rocks, the line of the clouds and the drops in the air give detail for the eye. Good diagonal border and the large rock at the left is well positioned in the frame.

Hi Renier
I like your experience, amazing light and colours.
Nice low POV and effect of the waves.
TFS and have a nice weekend
Aires

What luck you had for the sun to appear on your wild day out. This kind of low light shot is often taken with a slow shutter to smooth out the waves, but your lack of a tripod was a blessing as it forced you to use a faster shutter to freeze the action of the wild water creating wonderful drama. The light as it highlights the waves and the pebbles is wonderful. Very good work.

Hi Renier,
You and your dog's valient efforts yield this beautiful dramatic view of what mother nature can come up with when she is in a bad mood. Very dramatic sky with beautiful waves crashing on the rocks and lighting up the beach. This looks more like the ocean than a lake. Very effective composition.

Hello 'Bay, Good to experiment under various weather conditions. This turned out well and you caught sufficient details and texture. I have just gotten back from a road trip up in the mountains. It is the middle of autumn here, but it does it appears that fall foliage is very muted because of the long drought we had. I ended up in Luray Caverns, will try to post some fresh ones soon. Yes, I do have lots of RP photo on stocks. Have a good week. Danilo

Hello Renier,
This is an exceptional sunrise!
The sunrays play nicely with the surf, adding a great feeling of dynamics to this fine composition...

Hi Renier,
A spectacular dawn in this environment of strong wind in the lake, which produces these waves and the splashes that you have caught perfectly in your shot.
I like the light, the sheens and the reflections that the Sun offers us, and its great graphical result.
Impressive lake, and very good composition.

Hello Renier
Shooting directly into the sun, the effect is wonderful. The sprays of the water in the FG would have been caused by the strong winds. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful shot, braving the rain & the wind. How on earth did you protect your camera when you were taking shots?
