Photographer’s Note
Taken from a helicopter high in the Southern Alps near Milford Sound. The sun behind us the clouds in front. We were to have an alpine landing as part of the flight but with the clouds rolling in it was not possible. The pilot got us as close as he could and as we skirted over the snow and ice we flew up high to this peak before turning away and flying onto Queenstown and away from the clouds.
Although an alpine landing would have been a great adventure I was not disappointed with the scenery that we witnessed.

You and your helicopter rides...grrrrrrrrrrrrr ;-)
Hello Jude,
Like i never saw it...but how beautiful. It must look huge, we miss some things for scaling, but that's not your fault, only being there your self you know and see these majestic mountain ranges.
The blue on the left and the cracks of blue between the white....very special, i think light falls just at the right place to bring this effect out.
A real beauty and yes you had more on your hard-drive ;-)
Take care,
Henk

Hello Jude
Amazing scenery to be seen only from a helicopter. Having never been in a helicopter I don't think I would want to go much closer. The lines in the snow are intriguing. Tfs, Marlene

Hey Jude,
you didn´t make it bad :)
I like the awakening monster here (do you see the head with the white eyebrow at the upper left?), it´s a wonderful impression of wilderness...
cheers chris

Hi Jude,
Woo hoo, way to go, a great shot. Henk has said it all.
Flying around in a helicopter for three hours when you only paid for the ten minute trip, you lucky duck.
Warm regards
Peter

Hello Jude,
Wow! This is very impressive view and fantastic picture. The cloud on the left covering the summit create this beautiful and wild scene. You show a rough beauty unavaiable for others. Well done!
Best regards,
Darek

Hi Jude,
I don't know how I missed this image. I like very much the color variation in the drifting ice fields. I understand, the bluish color is from the result of air having been squeezed by the weight of the ice, making it a much denser packing. What I find tantalizing is the dissimilarity between the topographies of Australia and new Zealand.
Warm regards,
Bulent
