The famous 'Kingston Flyer' approaches Fairlight station at the end of its run from Kingston at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu. Is this a game of chicken?

hello Neil ,
What a stunning capture ! And if the train goes straight ... . The composition is excelle,t , and the cloudy sky addas to the quite dramatic atmosphere .

WoW! this is a photo opportunity that must be fairly unique. It is an image of not only intrigue but awesome impact, if you pardon the pun! Love it!
Enjoy a peaceful weekend - B.

Great composition, one in a million chance catching this situation. The grey clouds and mountains make the colours stand out. Nice depth to the train. Interesting that the trailer is fitted with wheels for the track but not the jeep.

very nice capture. It really seems they will hit each other but then I have seen your other photo so I know what will happen. Nice atmosphere created by the mist. The steam from the engine contrasts well with it.
Very well done,

a heart stopping moment. Just as well you've since posted the follow up so I know all went well. You must have been standing quite close to the action and the immediacy of this shot has me wondering how it felt to have all that metal steam by. Kind of weird that there's a motor vehicle following the track.
Compositionally this is good with the tracks crating a triangle that is always useful. Strong diagonal line too. I like the white steam set against the dark hills and grey sky.
