Lindis Pass is one of the most scenic drives in New Zealand, taking in the best rugged features the South Island has to offer and if your lucky, dramatic weather will always be around the corner.

This is truly a Lord of the Rings landscape !
The light and the dark clouds contribute to create a very dramatic atmosphere

Que paisagem magnifica bem agreste , ficou fantástica a estrada em direcção ao horizonte , as nuvens deram bastante dramatismo a foto, boa luz e cores, parabéns!!
Um abraço Gonçalo
Bom fim de semana

Hello Jim ,
A strange and rather oppressive atmosphere , here . But the composition is splendid . What a contrast between the lightened golden valley and the dark clouds over the peaks ! The road provides a sense of immensity .

The low hanging clouds add a dramatic tone to the landscape, beautifully illuminated by patches of faint sunlight.

Quelle superbe ambiance apocalyptique
où les tons sombre se marient très bien
entre les collines marrons et un ciel qui
est très menaçant, vraiment une belle photo, bravo.

Perfect photo of this wonderful landscape! I like the light here, as well as those low dark clouds! Captured on a great moment!

this is really a breathtaking view, wonderful and pleasant warm tones contrast with the heavy threatening grey of the coming cloud.
Gorgeous moment captured.

The light and mood both work well here but for me it's the road that seems to dead end into the base of the mountains that adds the extra intrigue.. Well captured image..

I like everything in your photo! The composition with the road which reminds the colors of the sky, the light which plays with the relief, the clouds which waste the mountain...
A great shot, congratulations

the winter is coming in south hemisphere.
Good light to give the impression of the third dimension on the naked brown mountains, the road gives the scale, and the clouds are terrifying.

I have to agree with your title.
This certainly does not evoke memories of similar places .. it is truly alien!
Great use of the road, to a fine disappearing point.
There is such an immense contrast between the tones of the pointed hills and slopes, and the descending mist!

This one is a winner too! What beautiful hues, with a great dramatic mood. The matching between the threatening dark clouds, low on the hills, that seem to invade the landscape, and the grey ribbon of the road, is top notch! The distant POV is very well mastered, and the soft texture adds to the visual shock that the big contrasts provide. Excellent work!
I hope you will not stay away too long... I wait for the next one!!!

The most spectacular drive I have ever done is the one from Invercargill up to Milford Sound..that is the most spectacular drive I have done...if this one is close, it must be pretty darn good! I like the atmosphere in this one with this brown landscape blanketed by low clouds...excellent work.
