Photographer’s Note
Middlemarch is the end of the line for the Central Otago Rail Trail.
Once a rail line built to bring commerce and prosperity to New Zealand's Central Otago goldfields, starting in 1993 the tracks were pulled up in order to facilitate the development of a recreational reserve.
Now the 150km route is a popular cycle, walking and horse riding trail passing through several historical towns and featuring a number of bridges and tunnels.
