Photographer’s Note
Another view from Queenstown Pier. The glow from the lights on the pier giving this golden tone. See my previous post Queenstown Pier
This was just before sunrise when everyone is still sleeping and missing these great moments.
A little about Queenstown from Wikipedia
Queenstown is a international resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island. It is built around an inlet on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin lake formed by glacial processes that is shaped like a staggered lightning bolt, and has spectacular views of nearby mountains.
There are various apocryphal accounts of how the town was named, the most popular suggesting that a local gold digger exclaimed that the town was "fit for Queen Victoria". It is now known for its commerce-oriented tourism, especially adventure and ski tourism. It is popular with young international and New Zealand travellers alike.
The town is the largest centre in Central Otago, and the third largest in Otago.

Hello Jude
I have a look on your whole gallery, and you have many beautiful pictures. I can't explain why I miss a lot of them ;o)
Once again, this one is marvelous.
You've done an excellent use of the pier and the way you've framed is perfect to get a dynamic diagonal.
The warm tones of the wood against the dark blue are beautiful, and the mist adds something mysterious in that shot.
The exposure is very well managed, and the sharpness is striking.
Compliments.
I'll try not to miss the next ones.
Regards
Karine

Hi Jude.
Lovely photo. The illuminated pier and its posts look superb against the blue tones of the sea, mountains and clouds. The angle of view makes for a very pleasing diagonal, and the excellent slow exposure seems to my eyes to be very free of noise and extremely sharp. I visited Queenstown about 5 years ago, but it was in mid-summer and very crowded, so I appreciate this picture which conjures a sense of solitude.

Andrew

Beautiful lighting for a wonderfully moody feel to the shot. The yellow and blue colours complement each other. You chose the perfect pov so that there is a gap between the tops of the posts and the line where the lake meets the mountains.

Dear Jude,
Seeing this and the other one i ask myself why i didn't do this when i was in Queenstown. Both version look very good and it is that warm light from the woodwork against the cold blue what does the trick here. But look also how those clouds are wrapped around the mountain, another beautiful part in this image....wonderful.

Henk

hey Jude [sounds like a song :) which now is stuck in my head, lol]
another great shot, and in this version I like that green light on the left a lot, it adds an interesting detail to the scene. love the strong diagonal, and the repitive and meditative patters of the wood and reflections in the puddles. great shot, very Zen :)

Hi Jude
The landscape is for sure of great value but on the photo the foreground makes the image for it brings contrasting warm highlights that do plenty of good to the general impression.
Have a nice day JY

Bonjour,

Hey Jude, This is a very classy photograph. It contains a lot of unique character. The wood of the wharf looks like a work of art through your lens. Another very fine contribution. Murray.

Hello Jude,
An absolutely heavenly view — The pier lit by a Sun that makes a grazing angle, the mountains in the background shrouded in mist and fog, the resolution of the timber, the composition with the diagonal structure... Well done. Your note too is a welcome component in making this such an excellent TE-package.
Warm regards, and happy Easter.

Hi Jude,
So you scared off the seagulls and threw some more water on the wharf, much better without those pesky birds spoiling the symmetry of the composition.
A very good shot, extremely well done, congratulations.
Sorry it took me so long to get here, I missed this beauty somehow.

Beautiful work Jude. The lines and shapes are clean, the light magical and the contrasting colours eye catching.Everything is precious in this composition, from the wet boards to the lonely light on the left. And of course, the looming, cloud covered mountain range across the water. My compliments Jude. Klaudio.

Hi Jude,
You have a lot of beautiful images in your gallery, but this is certainly one of my favourites due to its simplicity of construction and the early morning mood. The golden light on the pier is wonderful and contrasts perfectly with the cool blues of the water, mountains and clouds behind. Not sure about the inclusion of the green light on the left, but that's probably just my personal preference for minimalism.
Very nicely done!
John
