Photographer’s Note
This is Queenstown Pier on Lake Wakatipu taken around 6.30 in the morning.
I wanted to get a photo of the pier with it's lights on but at night there were too many people around. As you can see there were not many early birds around at this time of the morning.
Walter Peak is in the background.

Bonjour Jude
Une belle image nocturne avec une lumière bien maitrisée, une bonne profondeur d'image avec le regard qui suit le ponton.
Merci pour cette belle image et bonne journée.

The electric light here seems a natural part of the light of the picture.
A very beautiful sleepy atmosphere, and a new (bad weather) day which is coming.
Very good work

Its a beauty alright, the wharf is lit up beautifully, works very well against the moody sky. Lovely tones and top notch exposures, maybe a longer shutter to make that water look silkier but the early mornings are the best time for taking photos even if the light was not sunny etc.
Well done Jude

Hello Jude,
The contrast between that early morning blue and the warm toning from the woodwork makes this one stand out. The perspective depth and those lights from the lantarns work als pretty good in here. It always pays off go get up early to catch the light when no one is there, and it seems you were at the right time at the right place.
The low clouds also add a nice detail to the scenery, something i like to see, just like that dot of light on the lake...
Have a nice evening ;-)

Hi Jude.
Beautiful morning 'blue hour' shot, with excellent sharpness and absence of noise. Nice POV give us a pleasing right angle in the foreground and marvellous perspective looking out along the pier. I thought at first it needed a person in it, maybe loitering half way along the pier, but I'm not so sure - the beauty and stillness speak for themselves in this fine picture. Well done.

Andrew

Jude, this trip has given your creativity wings. Beautiful scene with the stillness of the early morn and wonderful colours. Excellent sharpness. Love the sense of depth and space. The 2sec exposure was spot on and didn't distort the light coming from the lampposts.Bravo Jude. regards. Klaudio.

hi Jude,
this is really great, I like a lot the smooth golden shine of the pier against the smoky blue of the water and mountains, that's a fascinating contrast. but unlike Henk (I know this is close to blasphemy) I'm not sure about that dot of light in the lake, for me it is a little distractive in this otherwise moody and even melancholic scene. but that's a personal opinion on a detail, the shot remains great :)
best,
Kristine

Hi Jude!
Your photos are one most beautiful than another (I don't know if you understand, my english is not so good and I don't know if this "way of say" run even in others languages).
But the point is that you have the ability to perfectly integrate human constructions with the landscape, your images result always clean and so beauty to look almost unreals.
To use an italian word I have to say...BRAVISSIMA!!!

Hey Jude,
I prefer this version much better than the one you just posted. I mean, the new one is still good, but I prefer this one;)
The thing that I really like is the mix of warm colors on the pier and of cold colors in the rest of the picture. I like the moody sky as well.
The light must have been very low because you had to expose for 2 sec at f/8. But that also means you had plenty of space to close that aperture and have a longer exposure! The result would have been a nice uniform surface of the water, an even moodier sky with the clouds that would transit during the exposure and the lights would look like stars instead of like luminous balloons...
Anyway, it's a fantastic take, I'm just surprised you did not go for the extralong exposure!
best regrds,
Marc
