A hoiho, or yellow-eyed penguin (Megadyptes antipodes) comes home from the sea on a beach on the Otago Peninsula. The hoiho or yellow-eyed on one of the world's rarest penguins & only exist on the south-eastern coast of the South Island & the Auckland Islands. They are the third largest of the world's penguin species. Their habitat has been at risk through farming & the clearing of coastal forest in which they breed, but conservation efforts & replanting programmes are helping to preserve this interesting species.
