Photographer’s Note
This area now known as the Harbour & Tyne Historic Precinct was the original commercial district of Oamaru and served as the focal point for the trade through the port of Oamaru. The buildings largely consisted of large grain and seed warehouses which served the prosperous agricultural sector in the district during the later part of the 18th century.
These buildings were largely built during the period 1860’s - 1880’s and today remain as New Zealand’s most complete collection of Victorian buildings.
The area has been cleaned up and restored, the Oamaru Stone used in the buildings is restored to original condition, and the buildings earthquake strengthened.
Some of the buildings are in use again, as craft shops, retaurants and gift shops.
At this stage the area is a tourist attraction in Oamaru, but is not overly commercialised, yet.

Hola Mike: I like a lot this type of buildings, I enjoy them much here in Mexico, the colors and the details are beautiful. I like to see them at different hours and with different illumination like for example in the afternoons with the natural light of the sun. TFS. Saludos Cordiales. *Ninfa Urania*
