Devil's Punchbowl Falls, a photo from Canterbury, South Island

Photographer's Note

Arthur's Pass has several great waterfall walks, all of which I would recommend! Devil's Punchbowl Fall is a large impresive waterfall that you can see from the road but the walk to the waterfall offers much better views. I liked the silhoutette of the small tree holding on to the cliff face and looked for a good POV in order to capture the tree with the fall behind.

This is your first picture...
A real master's piece.
There is almost no light, exept this ray descending from the up right corner. Just enough for animate the fall and reveal the beautiful silhouette of the tree.

THAT is a very impressive falls and an equally impressive photo. The vertical composition adds to the drama and height. The exposure, though a dark scene, is perfect. Welcome indeed and hope to see much more from you. Regards, Paul.

A 1st post entry, and you have already given a surprisingly great photo

.great pov
.vertical composition is well done
.light is on lower part of cliff
.good silhouette of trees
.waterfall pattern is rare at 1/250s, probably due to its fall height, the water becomes misty

This is excellent work.
