Mt Cook evening, a photo from Canterbury, South Island

Photographer's Note

On the way into Mt Cook you drive along the side of Lake Pukaki and in our case in the evening. Clouds were low and Mt Cook was poking up above a layer of cloud.

A splendid capture of this wonderful mountain landscape . For sure , the sight is amazing , but you've framed it perfectly , with a superb sharpness . The effect of the clouds in the sky and around the summit is fantastic .

Ian, This is a beauty, so sharp, and the clouds look fantastic, with Mt.Cook just peeping through them.
You should frame this one and hang it up in the house mate, really nice.

Hi Ian,

Fantastic scenery and a great point of view. Great colours and very sharp too. You have captured the light on the mountains perfectly and the inclusion of the strip of trees running at an angle across the bottom of the frame is excellent. Having said that I think there is perhaps a little too much sky at the top of the frame meaning that the main focal point of the white peaks is in the middle of the shot and perhaps not as prominant as it could be, I think that the image could benefit from some extra clarity too. I've done a workshop to illustrate. Thanks for sharing.

I can imagine how great that moment was, especially if it had been cloudy for a long time. Patchy light and mountain top peeking between clouds is wonderful. And the landscape looks so wild and natural.
