Photographer's Note

A scene that belies the time of the year - Winter! There were patches of early winter snow lying around these limestone formations at Castle Hill in inland Canterbury, but not in this photo. Castle Hill lies in an valley between the Torlesse Mountains & the main range of the Southern Alps at an altitude of around 750 metres. It lies on the road between Christchurch and Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island. It was a cool crisp beautiful Winter's day but you wouldn't think so from the picture.
