Orakei Korako Cave and Thermal Park, also known as The Hidden Valley, is located off the beaten track, between Taupo and Rotorua, New Zealand.
We went from Taupo to Auckland, down State Highway 5, the turnoff to Orakei Korako is 3km south of Golden Springs. Turn right on to the Tutukau Rd, travel 16kms then turn right onto Orakei Korako Rd, travel 5kms to the end of the road. Approximate driving time from Rotorua is 45 minutes.
A true gift from nature, Orakei Korako means 'The Place of Adorning' and as the local Maori women once did, nature has adorned itself spectacularly in this awe-inspiring park, its natural beauty preserved by isolation from the outside world.
It's no wonder the BBC chose this spot to shoot scenes from Walking with Dinosaurs! The Hidden Valley is only accessible by a boat service which departs on request, so it really is an untouched paradise. It's easy to imagine great prehistoric beasts roaming the serene native bush and the glistening white sinter flats.

joli et très coloré, une photo qui montre bien ce phénomène qui sera appréciée par les amateurs de vulcanologie. La Nouvelle-Zélande est vraiment une île surprenante.

The smell of sulphur and damp water comes out of my screen when looking to this extraordinary scenery. A really special place well captured.

now I really understand why people keep comparing Yellowstone with New Zealand, the colours indeed are very similar. I quire like the way you have composed the photo, the low point of view places the viewer right in the middle of that, I too can smell the sulphur :)

Truly an amazing place..tectonics & geothermal activities have made NZ a haven for geologists & I would believe for photographers as well!
While we see spewing smoke from the pool or vent, the colours of water thanks to the algae, its not clear what are the two white 'formations' in the BG, which look like waterfalls.
A fine picture with good use of your wide lens
