Photographer’s Note
30,000ft over Mt. Taranaki, North Island New Zealand.
Mt. Taranaki is the second largest volcano in New Zealand, and is 2,518 metres tall and stands alone on an otherwise flat coastal plain. Taranaki is a dormant volcano last exploding around 300 years ago. This shot, taken a few minutes before my previous shot of the mountian (also on TE)was taken from the window of an Air New Zealand flight between Auckland and Christchurch. The rest of the land was in darkness, the sun had already set, with only the higher snow capped ground gaining any orange light. Had the weather been bad, i sat on the right side of the plane, or the flight 20 minutes later, I would not have seen this most amazing sight. Taranaki is just as impressive from the ground, towering over the farmland.

You manage a very nice shot of the volcano at the right moment of the sunset. Nice colours and good compo. Well done.

Amazing shot, Matthew, and of excellent quality particularly considering it's through the thick windows of a moving aircraft!
Right place, right time. An unrepeatable photo. Well done!

Hi Matthew. Impressive photo. I get to see the mountain from work very occasionally, but never like this. Right time right place all right. Well composed and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Matt
It took my a while to place all pieces of the picture together. It looks more like a Japanese painting than a real photo. Well done
cheers

Hi Matt, Can't beat the POV you have arranged here. It is clear and clean. I like the way the clouds circle here, a different perspective than from the ground. Good work. Murray.

Hi Matthew. You did very well here, considering the size of airoplane windows and the angles at one's disposal. Wonderful contrasts. One really gets an impression of the magnitude of these volcanoes and of the topography of NZ. Regards. Klaudio.
