Photographer’s Note
This was taken from the window of an airbus A320 on a flight from Auckland to Christchurch. It wast taken at about 6pm, as the sun was setting, with the rest of the land around Mt. Taranaki totally under a heavy layer of cloud. I count myself very lucky to of seen this, as on my first trip to New Zealand, the whole time I spent at Taranaki it was raining, and i never got to see the mountain. Well this makes up for it. Mt. Taranaki is a 2518 metre high dormant volcano. This was captured using a 4 megapixel Pentax optio S40.

Welcome aboard (TE) Airbus A320 flying from Auckland to Christchurch, fasten your seatbelts as we will be landing shortly on that gigantic snow capped mountain that we are whizzing by...You had a great seat indeed for this picture, congratulations. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Matthew, Really good and unusual POV of this volcanic cone. I lived near here for many years and this is one of the best images ever seen of this much photographed mountain. Good to see on TE. Murray.
