Photographer’s Note
Hi all. Another from our Northland excursion. This is Coopers Beach. I fell in love with the colour of the “sand” on this stretch of the coast and as luck would have we passed this way just on sunset. Yes that is the actual colour of the sand, only enhanced by the warm light of the evening. The sand here is more crushed Seashells than actual sand and this accounts for the colour.
This area is on the east coast and is about 70 Km’s north of the Bay Of Islands, the tourist center of Northland.
Just south of here is Mangonui Harbour, home of the “World famous in New Zealand” fish and chip shop. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.
In WS a close up of the “sand”.
Enjoy, Paul.

Hi Paul,
Wonderful shot you took here, Really like the detail of the beach and waves coming into the shore. The saturation is perfect, Like how you add the tree in the shot to give depth to the photo. Well done Paul.

This is a very nice landscape picture with a nice frame by the trees creating an impressive sense of depth. It is very interesting the bit of land above the horizon on the left. Actually, I only noticed it after looking at the WS. The red “sand” looks to me like made of debris of volcanic rock. From your picture I can not see any quartz at all but I am not saying there is no sand. I have seen the same type of beach, but black instead of red, in Tahiti. There are also black “sand” beaches in NZ, I believe in the North Island west coast. Well done.

Hello Paul
From my calculations so far, NZ has three different coloured and textured sands by the virtue of red, black and yellow. Any other colour I should know about and does any other country have this monopoly of different coloured sandy beaches? Certainly an impressive colour although I have to admit that the black sand is my favourite considering it's in my camera and tripod ;-). Great and composition and colours, well done.

- Superb amazing color for this beach with red sand, perhaps the late hour accentuates also the phenomenon, anyway, the opportunity of a nice very well framed shot.
Have a good weekend also.

Hi Paul,
I like this reddish sand. I think is very interesting because of the crushed seashells and wonder what the purpose is. Nice point of view showing this desolate beach. A peaceful composition. Thanks Paul :-)

Hallo Paul,
Plans for NZ are in the making, so i am looking with high interest to all pictures from far down under. No idea where this exactly is, but it sure looks nice. Weather and light is not perfect, but a rough sea can also be interesting and your crop works very good to present it in a more pano style...i like that.

Hello Paul,
This is a pleasant composition, showing the characteristics of the beach very well! Imagine, it took nature quite a while to crush the seashells to make up sand on the beach...
The silhouetted branch makes a fine framing of the view to infinity!

Hello Paul:
It appears that there was little wind to capture this scene, as the silhouettes of the branches have not been very well defined. In addition, the contrast of colors is significant, the horizon is well established and the depth of field is very significant.

Paul,
Another very peaceful atmosphere shot, the color is very subdue and muted but definitely very natural and pleasant, The evening light illuminated the color of the sand beautifully, the sharpness is a bit soft but the tranquility of the scene show well due to the soft edge and low light. The stream lead our vision in and into the ocean. Very good composition overall. Thanks and it's an honor to be among you fav list.

Very surprising color of the sand. One could imagine, that this color is only caused by the evening light, but You say that it is original color. Very interesting! Good idea to put some dark branches on the foreground. It slightly enhances contrast.

Olá Paul, nice framing using the branches, even if I'm not so sure about the one at right that seems to be flying away. But I actually like the movement given by the 1/15s of exposure. Good use of the winding flow of water going to the sea as it is the way I read the picture. I guess it's not a good place to be in bare feet ;-) Excellent capture of the late afternoon mood in soft tones.
