Photographer’s Note

The wind and sand together have created a pattern in the sand stone.
This I found at the top of a sand dune up from the beach off Henderson Bay in the farth North of the north Island of NZ.

Nice detail Karen - looks like Utah from the air. cloth pattern or abstract design - it's all in the rocks! :)

what a neat pattern, looks like a zipper ( I do costumes.... can't help it:))- great graphic shot, clear details.
Well done.
Just curious: how big was this? I have seen formations like it that were miles long, this looks much smaller, how small? If you remember I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Karen,

As a geologist I'd like to collect all contributions to TE relating to rocks .. and this will certainly be one of my favourite. At first glance it was difficult for me to believe it was a sandstone.
The patterns are really nice as is the dominant pinkish tint!

This is so sinple yet very abstract and interesting. From teh thumbnail I presumed you did some heavily post processed stuff, but i know for sure you didnt. I like how you placed the wavy lines in a diagnol..good crop. TFS
