Ahipara is located in the Far North, at the southern end of 90-mile beach. Shipwreck Bay was named for the sinking of many ships, including one which is still visible during low tide. A Maori-owned campsite provides a front-seat view to this amazing beach. Only on low tide can this view be seen. In late spring (October), the weather is still unpredictable and can change from bright sunshine to downpours in a minute. This was an in-between moment. I loved the contrast between the dark sky and bright turquoise ocean.
