Photographer’s Note
Hi all. This is another from our Pohangina excursion. These are Kahikatea trees and this shot was taken on the Kahikatea loop walk. The walk is maintained by the dept of conservation which is charged with such things as well as the welfare of all our native species of flora and fauna.
The Kahikatea trees are the tallest of our native trees and can grow to heights of 60 meters. They were favoured by the early settlers for the straight grained and defect free timber. Thankfully they left a few standing.
This shot was taken using the DRO function on my camera which gives an "in camera" HDR effect. In WS is a shot of the same scene taken with the function turned off to show the effect.
Enjoy, Paul.

Bonsoir, cher Paul,
Amitiés.

Afternoon Paul
Firstly, weather permitting next week, I am heading down to the Desert Road if you fancy coming along, early morning start though and then up to Lake Taupo. Ill email you my number tomorrow just in case. Excellent perspective while the function on the camera has certainly brought out much better detail than the workshop. Natural colours and a s ubtle light is perfect for the image. The sharpness is spot on also.
Cheers

Bonjour Paul.
L'effet HDR est ici remarquable et très utile pour déboucher les ombres. J'aime cette perspective et ce POV qui nous place dans la position de quelqu'un qui ferait la sieste au pied de ces arbres en regardant le ciel avant de fermer les yeux.

DRO sounds like the D lighting feature of the latest Nikons. You have certainly got the hang of it as it has worked perfectly for you. You also chose your focal point carefully as at f7.1 the bottoms of the trees could very easily have been out of focus. Well done

Hi Paul,
This function DRO of your camera I did not know it. The capture in this impressive low-angle shot gives a perspective of dizziness, with a great graphical effect, while the light and the shades on the trees make this composition furthermore attractive.
In the WS it is possible to see the difference on having activated the function or on having deactivated it.
Great work, my friend.

Josep

Paul,
What a wonderful POV, I tried a few simular shots, but didn't turn out as good as yours. I love it, it really emphasize the grandness of the trees and it's such simetrical as the tree reach toward the sky. It make me feel so small. Great sharpness and good DoF. Excellent work as always. Thanks Paul for you comments on my 100th post.

Hi Paul,
Fantastic perspective, and composition with all the trees leading to the centre of the frame. Makes me feel a little dizzy looking at it for a while! The exposure whilst incredibly difficult has been well handled. It was worth blowing out a little of the sky for the rich greens. Good shot!

Hi Paul,
The PoV/perspective is fantastic; superb light and sharpness. It's a very attractive image. I guess that the triangle of sky makes it more special.
Assuming that you didn't make any elaborated PP, that DRO thing seems amazingly effective.

Hello Paul:
I can not comment on this picture, despite the many favorable comments.
Although the sky does not help much, is a great idea to capture this image in anti-chopped, taking into account the parallel alignment of the trees toward the top with a sharpness and an even more unique composition.
Without doubt, a very original idea. Congratulations
