Photographer’s Note
Hi all. A mid winter view of the Tasman Sea taken from Wanganui. This beach is known locally as Morgan St Beach, no points for guessing the road that leads to this beach ;-). This is also right next to the Whanganui River mouth. The driftwood in the FG would have come down the Whanganui River from the higher country inland. This driftwood litters just about all west coast beaches and a good portion of east coast beaches also. In WS a photo of the northern breakwater (Mole) of the river mouth.
I’ve posted a few stormy looking photos lately but the sun does shine occasionally and maybe if I try hard enough I will get a sunny photo to post soon.
Processed from RAW.
Enjoy, Paul.

Hi Paul,
the driftwood look a bit like some bones in this light, therefore I have the impression of a cemetery of nature. I like the grey dominated view with the shore leading the eye and the good light in the sky.

Bonjour, cher Paul,

Hi Paul
Oh yes the colour less black beaches are back, im going to have to set up a theme of these NZ beaches with yours and Tony's included. Excellent moody clouds with the rays appearing through. The debris are very cool to be included. Excellent capture.

Hi Paul,
I remember from my own visit to NZ all the tree debris on the beaches. Good deep perspective. Strong contrast from sunrays to heavy rain coming down. Quite gloomy feeling but I guess that's the way you intended it.

Hi Paul,
The picture is well balanced with the sun and its rays fanning down on the side, and the driftwood being an interesting foreground. The low light intensity and the threatening sky give the right atmosphere to this landscape.
Nice

hello Paul
From your POV, the coast here is flat. In a tough light condition such as this, it is difficult to compose the stormy sky as main feature, and you have highlighted the FG beach with driftwoods as a good choice.
That's a lot of driftwoods along the beach. It is the same here on Sarawak's coastline (we only face west!) where the rivers are subject to tides.

That is some dramatic sky! I love the mixture of black clouds and blue sky but most of all the sunbeams are great. There is also some attractive light on the wet snd at the shoreline. At first glance the driftwood looks like piles of bones. I like the WS too where the central composition works well with the symmetry from the breakwater.

Hello Paul:
It is undoubtedly a great job, and with a connotada composition.
The view is extraordinary, trunks abandoned by the sea on the beach, highlighted in the dim lighting of a horizon well balanced, and all clouds in the sky, more solitude of the place, determine the scene within a somewhat gloomy atmosphere. Excellent and congratulations.

Hello Paul,
This is the dramatic version of the NZ beaches!
The low clouds and the grayish water, the waves rolling in from the windy seas...
I like the composition with the diagonal shoreline, nice play of light in the sky... The driftwood on the beach adds to the drama!

Hi Paul,
What so beautiful image by the calm and solitary landscape and by its soft colors of silver tones under the afternoon light.
The visual effect that produce the sea and the dramatic sky with clouds is magnificent, and they inspire many peace.
The driftwood in FG adds a good graphical interest to the composition.
Nice work, I like.

Hi Paul,
My brother-in-law did his time as a marine engineer on the MV Wanganui all those years ago. Good to see the area the ship was named after.
Interesting shot, I like the low angle showing the coast disapearing into the horizon, the rays of sunlight give relief to the heavy sky.
Superb capture.

Hi Paul,
At first glimpse, I wouldn't expect that anyone could get a good photo of this littered beach (ok, it's 'natural' litter, not pollution, but still litter) and a sky filled with grey clouds with the sun peeping behind, risking to make the exposure adjustment a nightmare. You certainly did! It's a very powerful and catchy image, with a strong and dramatic atmosphere. You did a splendid job with the compo and the light. Congratulations!

Paul,
Believe it or not, this beach reminds me of a couple of
beaches over here, with the difference that we would get
a bit less of driftwood on our shores.
But the light and sky are well dramatic!
I'd like to visit New Zealand if I had a chance...

Paul, interesting to me how exotic NZ sounds though I expect in some ways it would seem very familiar and comfortable, that may be the best of two worlds. This beach is like many I have seen except that I have never seen the Tasman Sea. Your handling of the clouds and maintaining the detail across such a wide dynamic range is very well done. well seen and captured.

Very beautiful composition with that dramatic sky! The black clouds with patches of blue sky and the streaming sunrays are beautiful.
