Photographer’s Note

Hi all. These are typical old New Zealand stock yards. Used for holding and sorting sheep when shearing, dipping, drenching and other stock work. Attached to these yards is a small shearing shed (shown in the workshop) that doesn’t seem to have seen much work for some time. Every sheep farm has a set of these yards and shed ranging in size from this one to yards sheds many times larger.
If you look closely you can just make out white spots in the sky, this is the fluff that comes from the willow trees in the late spring. (looks a bit like kapok.)

It is a beautiful shot even if the sky looks a bit overexposed in parts. I like the good compo and the very natural colours. New Zealand is really a wonderful country.

Interesting view. but I would prefer if there were sheep insice this yard. Beautiful willow tree. I can see only white spot far away, I suppose they are the sheep.

Nice capture, I like the composition and not oversaturated colours. DOn;t you thiik, though, that the clouds are a bit blown near the horizon?

Weather looks good in NZ ;-)
Do i pass here? No idea, but seeing this one and the old barn in the ws it looks like an interesting area. And although some clouds are on the edge of over-exposure, the blue sky it self looks great against all that green and the depth created by those clouds makes it a very pleasant picture to look at.

Excellent note, perfect composition with natural NZ colours at its best, pity a bit of rain beforehand would have boosted that more. Cloud formations are awesome, yes they are slightly blown out, Im not sure if your camera shoots RAW because the recovery would sort this out no probs. Looks like a scene from Helensville just further up North of Auckland.

It is the blue sky with CPL that has a good contrast to the green countryside to make this landscape view quite attractive, with that tree nicely placed and the wooden fence to mark the stock yards. The exposure especially on the white clouds perhaps can be toned down slightly to avoid being on verge of OE.

A nice capture here. The composition is such that the fence acts as a leading line into the image. The tree is off centre and is balanced by the tree in the centre and to the left.
Good DOF and the exposure is right on.

This is a very well composed image of the typical stock yards, with the one tree on the right. Great details and nice open hilly area. Beautiful sky and clouds makes it a lovely composition and nice and natural colors. Perhaps a couple of sheeps in the middle or foreground would be ideals. Thanks

these kind of yards are very common in Greece and in the most times used for sheep pen. The same wood fence and a tree, to sit under for shadow, the warm Summer days.Well done.

Lucky you to be having summer at the moment! This is a wonderful rural summery image. The composition is good with the fence coming from the bottom corner and leading us into the scene. You got fantastic depth and with only f7.1; pin-sharp from front to back.

Hi Paul, I like the desolate feel of this place. It is a bit reminiscent of the ghost farms we also have in the South African interior, the Karoo. Good colour and sharpness help to make this an appealing photo.

Olá Paul, lovely sky. Even with some burned clouds close to the horizon, I like the contrasts. Good geometric lines from the fence and beautiful lonely tree trapped inside the yard. I'm sure it would be a more happy tree 'running' free in the wild while meeting other trees :))) The WS shows a similar situation for the old shed that can't go for a walk because of the wire ;-) I would cut a bit on top for that WS to keep only the wire on the corner.

Paul, this is a great shot thought I can't see anything in the sky... I live the detail of the fence and runs to control the sheep. I doubt I would have noticed he sky had not Antonio pointed it out but I think the best way to control this is in the camera. I use the RGB display to show what is overexposed, the histogram will show the same thing and the advantage is that it is not subjective. In anycase it is a great capture and note.

Wonderful, very achieved, compo, it reminds a painting. The trees, the yards, the hills, the sky, all make a very attractive bucolic set.
Not surprisingly, I notice that some picked on the OE on the sky. Perhaps they are right, but I think that it looks pretty natural, as even our eyes, by far the best sensor you can have "over-exposes" clouds like those.

C'est le bel été chez toi et cette image en est la preuve. J'aime ce paysage de grand espace avec un ciel empli de "kapok" et de beaux nuages. Les enclos n'ont pas servi depuis longtemps mais ils sont là comme pour se souvenir des temps anciens.

Hello Paul, this one looks like it could be in Australia, somewhere along the Gippsland coast, Victoria, where the rainfall is usually high & the green pastures. I like how you composed this shot with the tree on the right, the stock yard fences in FG, the diagonal of the wire fence & the colours, pretty natural looking.

I can remember this kind of fence from my childhood as they were easy to climb, but here I haven't seen them for years now!
