Photographer’s Note

Hi all.
This is Lake Waikaremoana, the place of our “Blokes fishing weekend” last weekend. Now for those that don’t know a “Blokes fishing weekend” involves lots of fried food, beer and NO veggies. It’s always good to get back to a normal diet after a long weekend on such a diet.
Lake Waikaremoana is situated on the east coast of NZ’s North Island. The lake is a natural reservoir that was formed when one of the hills slid into the valley and blocked it. This all occurred several hundred years ago and even now in certain parts of the lake the old trees can be seen still standing under the water. The water is so clean it’s like flying above the old trees.
This shot was taken on the last morning just before we left.

Look like a peaceful place. The texture f the water is very nice. I'm surprised no people are included in the image, just the boats. Perhaps too early in the morning. Nice colours and sharpness. Thanks Paul.

A nice and composed image. Those boats make a nice viewpoint and the picture is full with detail and a kind of warm light in front.
The overal image looks very serene, if those boats waiting for someone....very good composed.

Good! Really very good picture. The composition is perfect, the placement of the boats was very well thought and the colours are beautiful. The light is also excellent and the scenery is great. The diet with NO veggies is good and I do not understand the reason for the fried food! Well done.

a very good composition with those baots in the foreground bathing in the morning sun and waiting for someone to get there and use to get out to the sea and have a blast of fishing. Curious that you used such a shallow f/ giving a somewhat unsharp impression of the background.

I can understand why you have these nice week-end in here. The place seems to be gorgeous and so peaceful. The light you captured is very soft and gives a great quiet mood. I like the composition and the way you used the boats to build a nice picture. Just maybe I would not have had the boat on the left so close to the edge.

This looks to be a beautifully peaceful scene for some R&R, with the excuse of fishing ;D. You got lots of depth by including the foreground boats in you composition and there are some wonderful reflections in the water. I hope you have now caught up on your 5-a-day.;D

One of my favourites themes, boats, from every kind or colour, this little guys are for me always a great subject to include and this one of yours on foreground is nicely included, then we have this beautiful landscape and lake with the boats floating on it and creating this calm impression.
The contrast of this calm with the clouded sky is nice.

Good photo of this beautiful and calm place where to enjoy a long weekend. The boats in foreground introduce us in a nice landscape with the lake and the forests, in full nature and with a sky with clouds really aesthetically.

Olá Paul, I wonder if you were recovering from the excess of the beer taken in the last night, before you leave, condidering the strong effect of this boat in FG - Just kidding ;-) Actually, this boat is what I like more in your composition. It gives great depth and contrast with the wonderful landscape. What a nice peaceful place to spend the weekend.

Hi Paul, I was there last April - what an amazing place... Only stayed one night - in the cabins in the BG in the picture (I think - just out of view on the left).

P.S. Your "Blokes Fishing weekend" makes me laugh as Bloke is a typical Aussie & Kiwi word. I told my son that in Australia, some people call Coke Zero "Bloke Coke" as it's marketed more for males as opposed to Diet Coke for females. But he started trying to order "Bloke Coke" on a Cathay Pacific plane and of course the air hostesse didn't understand :-)
