Photographer’s Note
During the 1900’s the then Prince of Wales and heir to Queen Victoria (i.e. Prince Edward) visited this geyser during a Royal tour of New Zealand.
The geyser was subsequently named the “Prince of Wales Feather Geyser” since its shape when in full flow resembles the Prince of Wales royal coat of arms.
I visited Rotorua this weekend and visited one of the many tourist attractions in this thermally active area. There are many locations where plumes of stean escape from far below the earth, including the golf course!
The Prince of Wales geyser is one of the largest in Rotorua and serves as an indicator for the nearby Pohuta Geyser’s eruptions.
A great place to visit for a surreal experience of nature’s power and beauty. TFR.

Hi Martyn
wonderful picture to begin your Trekearth adventure. Geysirs are great with the grey sky inbackground. Rocks and yellow puddles give a beautiful foreground. Congratulations to your spectacular picture and welcome in Trekearth.

Hi Martyn
Welcome to TE !
This is a good image to start with, we can feel the earth boiling, just watch out some burned highlights on the geyser.
Have a nice day JY
