Photographer’s Note
A view from inside the caldera on White Island in the Bay of Plenty reached by a two and a half hour boat ride from Whakatane, North Island, New Zealand.
White Island is an active marine volcano with many fumaroles venting sulphuric steam, the noise of these was quite amazing, and so was the smell !!!! The crater lake we were told was a mixture of sulphuric and hydrochloric acids with a PH value of minus 1, and a temperature of 85C.
