Photographer’s Note
Whakarewarewa National Park full of vulcanic activities in Rotorua, a Thermal Valley where the geysers a smoking since 40000 years. The grounds belongs to the Rotorua Maori Centre.
Maori History:
The local Maori are the Te Arawa tribes. According to tradition, they came from the ancestral homeland of Hawaiiki in the Te Arawa waka (canoe) and settled at first on the coast. Their tohunga (high priest), Ngatoro-i-rangi, created the region's lakes by stamping his foot in the dry earth as he travelled inland to Lake Taupo and the mountains of Tongariro and Ruapehu. On the cold summit of Tongariro he was caught in a blizzard and called to his sisters in Hawaiiki to send him fire for warmth. It came under the sea and land, bursting out at White Island, Rotorua and Taupo before bringing the mountains to roaring eruption. It is this fire that still warms the land today.

Hallo Achim,
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hi achim
I've died & gone to hell, for taking bad photos, right? Oh wait, it's the geothermal reserve in Rotorua! (Breathes sigh of relief). Good overview of the steaming vents of Whakarewarewa. Excellent lighting & sharpness. Tfs!

Hi Achim,
Great to see this scene, Whakarewarewa steaming all over. You present colours well despite grey weather. Wonders of nature well presented even from a scan. (I guess the camera is not correct, looking at the date.)

Hi, Achim. The smoke coming from the geysers creates a very special atmosphere in the picture. It looks as if it was a dull day, but the green leaves in the foreground contrast very well with the rest of the picture and add colour to it.

This is a very impressive shot. I love how your shot conveys the feeling of being totally immersed in smoke. All colors are greyed out by smoke. I love the texture and colour of the water in the basin. A very strong one.

Hi Achim,
You seem very close here to the geysers and one can almost feel the hot steam rising. I like the quality of this scan from what must be an old photo. The foreground fresh rich greenery contrasts well with the barren hot wasteland beyond. Very fine work...later.

Achim, quite impressive to see what care you have in writting a dairy and keeping it for so long. The Maori story gives the framing for this shot. I can't see to may details in the landscape but that is pretty clear with all the steam in the air. Does it also smell like sulfur? What a pity that you didn't get a better weather with a blue sky to have a better contrast between the steam and the clouds.
Gruss, Peter

Hello Achim
The smoke coming out from the geysers creates a very special atmosphere in the picture. The green leaves look fresh. I'm sure you would have got the effect of heat from where you took the shot. Very interesting is your note from the diary...Enjoyed the total package

Hi Achim,
This lovely volcanic landscape looks much like Yellowstone National park with the mysterious looking hot springs. The mixture of misty steam and lush green is brilliant.
