Photographer’s Note

White Island is located 50km north of the bay of plenty and Whakatane.
It is a marine volcano which came to surface.

Still active, volcano contains a huge cliff of pure sulfur as well as a sulfuric acid lake.

New Zealanders had the idea to put a sulfur treatment facility on the island in the 1880s. It worked for almost 50 years and was then destroyed by mud and scories eruption.
