The resort town of Mt Maunganui from the 232m high summit of Mt Maunganui which gives the town its name. It is an isthmus city because the "mount" is at the end of this peninsula, though not obvious in this photo. Bay of Plenty (of RAIN I assure you!) is at left, Pilot Bay and Tauranga harbour at right, in the distance thunderstorms over inland areas and Rotorua, which is NZ's largest tourist trap. This is a stitch of 3 portrait format photos with 28mm lens. At the bottom of the hill is a caravan park, the 2 tall buildings is a motel. This is a major kiwifruit and avocado growing area, exported from the huge port of Tauranga, mercifully out of the view of this frame to the right.

Tan, great photo! I nearly can't believe this is a scan, I just realized you use a conventional camera! Great balance on this one.

Hi Tan. Wow another most impressive landscape from you. You did a superb job of assembling the panorama. I really like the deep saturation from the polarizer. Well done Tan!!
danielswalsh (13599) 2005-11-09 23:14
Another awesome shot you have here. The colors and contrast are SUPERB! I really like the effect on the clouds. I don't normally think of New Zealand as being a tropical paradise- but this shot has opened my eyes!
Cormac (26563) 2005-11-09 23:18
Amazing clarity and colour! This seems so vivid ad lifelike that it's easy to imagine that I'm there seeing it myself. The town in the centre, with that incredible blue water on each side and the perfect curve of the beaches stretching away makes for a very beautiful scene. Superb!

A very interesting landscape, I like to see everything so sharply. A lovely place indeed! I wonder if it is sure, and there are never high waves that come into the town
cmarino (2490) 2005-11-10 5:35
Hi Tam !
Outstanding panorama full of colors and beautiful blues of a marvelous place.
The clouds in the background and the vegetation in the foreground add to the compo a lot !
Great shot, indeed.

Excellent POV, nice capture of the land sandwiched between the water. Thank you for sharing one of your secrets for capturing such expansive landscapes.
PixelTerror (0) 2005-11-10 6:18
Excellent PoV once again, this band dividing the sea is obviously an attractive location to build a sea-oriented city. It also bring depth to your photo where I also enjoy the deep polarised colors, the blue turning into green before ending on the beach on the left is particularly attractive.
Have a nice day,

Wonderful view over the town on this piece of land in between the beautiful blue seas! The clouds look also great, very well captured!

excellent POV, nice view over the city and the beaches. We can see very well the isthmus.
Beaches don't seem crammed... a good thing.
Good stich and beautiful colors as well.

Iyi günler Tan
A sharp shot with an impressive light enduced by the well used filter, very well seen between these two sides of the sea, and a lot of fine details.
mikenz (78) 2005-11-11 14:21
great composition and vantage point capt, however IMO the colours are not natural, we don't get that colour of skies in NZ. I know its only a photo, but folks could get the impression that this is some kind of tropical paradise ,like Fiji or Tahiti which it is not.
The sea is too dark as well.
Good photo though.

What an amazing place and image - the scale of it is incredible - to me it's as if in some sort of dream or a model - I have never seen a place like this - the cloud bank in the background is just fantastic!!
Nicely composed and realised Tan!
best wishes Kev

WOW ! WOW ! WOW !
Another stunning piece of work. Great clarity in this one. Simply amazing. Very well done. Another favorite just added in my list.

This vista takes one's breath away. The beauty is so overwhelming that it must have been hard to move from this spot. I like the differences in colour too between the ocean on one side and the other. The slice of urbanity along the isthmus somehow appears incongruous as the mind struggles to perceive what the scene would have looked like centuries ago. The clarity is also incredible. Very well captured.
banyanman (7789) 2005-11-13 9:04
Perfectly framed landscape, Tan, and wonderful sky as usual. The sharpness is good enabling us to see a lot of detail. For a moment I thought your horizon was tilted, but it is just an optical illusion caused by the mountains rising on the distant right. I knew a pro like you wouldn't get something as basic as that wrong! Cheers . . . David
cherryripe (21033) 2005-11-13 10:43
Lovely view. Really clear. Great DOV. The colour of the water is just beautiful. You were lucky it wasn't raining the day you took this. It was cloudy when I was there.
premels (2400) 2005-11-13 14:09
Hi Tan, Beautiful polarized colors on this one again. It is amazing how the clouds roll along the horizon isolating the see from the sky.
mjdundee (4663) 2005-11-13 17:30
Which planet have you been to?
A bitt too much crowded - but nice colours and note. TFS. Thomas
sleon (9402) 2005-11-14 16:09
What a magical view. The perspective and clarity are fantastic, allowing us to see every detail of the land reaching ahead. The colours are very inviting and the POV is excellent.

j'adore le point de vue, couleurs superbe
I would like to visit new zealand, it's a beautiful country, merci
pastadog (13111) 2006-02-12 10:39
Hi Tan - Today I was looking at your New Zealand photos, fortunately you were at a few places quite off-the-beaten track, unknown to me. In this one, I was caught by the differences between the two water bodies and their characteristics in the two sides (in general I like these "assymetrical symmetries"). Also the urban landscape interacts nicely with nature. The green foreground is superb, it makes me experience what might have been a pleasant hike to the top. Cheers and again TFS! Daniel.

Hello Tan, I'm very glad I came across this randomly chosen pic. It brought back good memories of when I was here in 2002. It looks like you had better weather than me. You have good detail in the buildings below and I love that sweeping expanse of sand.
MIMACSKA (291) 2006-07-13 4:27
Beautifull place! I wish to be there!
laxpix (686) 2006-12-31 2:19
beautiful place:) Nice POV and an excellent shot
rui_seabra (205) 2006-12-31 6:09
If it wasn't for the blacker sky in the upper left 1/3 it would be very difficult for me to say this was a stitch...
I also think that the clouds on the right look a bit artificial and that the image should be a little bit tilted counterclockwise - it feels like you're falling to the right...
Last remarks: beatiful scenary + useful note
