Here is the view from the patio of the Elevation restaurant on the Scenic Drive in the Waitakere Ranges, west of Auckland.
This view looks right over the City taking in all of its landmarks including Waitemata Harbour, the Harbour Bridge, Aucklands CBD and its skytower. Visible beyond this is the distinctive profile of Rangitoto (260m) Island which erupted from the sea as recently as 600 years ago. Visible beyond Rangitoto is the profile of the Coromandel Peninsula which is well over 100km from this restaurant, and just visible in the far left background is Great Barrier Island.
I'm always amazed at the distance the eye can see in NZ. I put this down to good air quality due to its relatively low population.
I used 3 x optical zoom on this shot, and just adjusted levels slightly before sharpening and posting for the web. Enjoy.

Oh Yes! This is just great Steve. Such a super view and your optical zoom has given you an excellent result. I haven't been to the Elevation restaurant, but have taken a similar view (but no where as good as this shot) from the Tourist Centre on the Scenic Drive.
This photos is awesome and I like how the afternoon sun is shinging on the Harbour Bridge and the Auckland CBD buildings. Even Coromandel stands out behind Rangitoto, and Great Barrier is seen in the BG on the left.
Are you living in NZ now or on holiday? I've been in Oz for the last week, returning today - haven't checked my photos yet - must do it now!!!
